The Joy of Fostering

I have been a cat person all of my life. When the opportunity to apply at the shelter came up I jumped at it! I was even more excited when the chance to foster came up. We had a mama cat and her babies come in, they needed to go into foster care and I volunteered. Her name was Missy, she was a black and white long haired beauty! She was so friendly and who doesn’t love a bunch of playful little kittens? I was hooked after caring for them and I will always volunteer to take care of cats and kittens in need. Over the last decade I have fostered numerous pregnant mamas and their kittens. From bottle babies to two pregnant cats at the same time it has been quite an adventure!

I am a foster failure times three and even my two boys get involved when it is time to bring a new litter of kittens’ home! They always cuddle the kittens in a towel after they’ve had a bath. They were a big help when we had a litter of kittens that were found in a wood pile and needed socialization. My son was so excited when he got the first purr! I am always sad to see them go but there will always be more that need help and a temporary home.
